Live Well, ACT Now!

- Adjusting to Cancer
- Committing to Your Values
- Taking Action NOW

Welcome to ACTOZ

The purpose of this site is to help you live well in the face of cancer diagnosis, treatment and beyond. Nothing can prepare a person for the shock of first hearing the words "It's CANCER." Whether you have just been diagnosed with cancer or are dealing with the challenges of survivorship, recurrence or palliation, this website can help you deal with the roller coaster of thoughts, feelings, sensations and emotions you may be experiencing.

Specifically, this site is designed to help you:

  • Deal effectively with difficult thoughts and feelings
  • Live well in the face of treatment side effects
  • Live in the present moment
  • Clarify what you most value and what you most want to spend your time doing
  • Put your most cherished values into action

Throughout this program, you will be asked to complete a variety of different exercises.  Some will involve listening to audio tracks, some will involve writing, and some will simply involve sitting quietly and thinking.  It is extremely important that you complete the exercises if you wish to gain something valuable from this program.  It’s kind of like this:  Imagine you were planning to engage in an exercise program to improve your physical health.  If you simply read about the exercise program without actually doing the exercise, it wouldn’t help you.  The same thing is true for this program of “emotional” or “psychological” exercise.

How to Use This Site

On the right of this page are 6 questions. Clicking on a question will take you to a part of the program that is designed to help you. We recommend that you start from the top at Question 1. When you have finished all the sections you may like to go back to an earlier session to reinforce your understanding. Take it at your own pace. Try not to rush through or skip a section. This program is about you and for you.

Research shows that the more people are actively involved in a self help program like this, the more they will get out of it. We have included exercises along the way for you. We recommend that you download these exercises and really give each section a go.
